Young Person Assessment, £195
Assessment option 1:
These are usually appropriate where the young person is aware of what they are finding difficult and are motivated to engage with support to make things better.
Initial assessment sessions may be up to 1hr30, or may be split into two separate assessment sessions.
Devoting some extra time initially to this first stage allows for an in-depth view on the young person's currently functioning, what's going well but also what is causing a barrier.
It also allows for sufficient time to reflect on all of the information collected, and form the suggested pieces of work and direction the work would take. This then underpins effective and focused work should the young person choose to continue onto intervention sessions.
Extended Assessment, £550
Assessment option 2:
If an assessment isn't going to be possible from 1-2 sessions with the young person, an Extended Assessment may be recommended at the free consultation stage, such as if:
- A lot of information will need to be gathered from parents/school/other professionals
- A written assessment report is needed
- You are looking for a full sensory processing assessment
- The young person's situation is too complex for assessment as described in Young Person Assessment
Length of work
If sessions are recommended after assessment, these are reviewed regularly.
Occupational Therapy works to functional goals, which might be:
- I will make and maintain meaningful friendships
- I will be able to attend football club
- I will understand and manage my anxiety to be able to attend school
- I will understand and regulate my emotions safely
Therefore there are clear end-points to work so we can see where we are at and when it is going to be appropriate to look at planning for sessions to close.
